Article TitleHong Kong's prospects as an intermediary in cross-strait economic activities.
Is Part OfTrade watch ; Aug 1997, p.1-8, illus.
AbstractIn the first five months of 1997, total trade between both sides of the Taiwan Strait increased, while re-exports through Hong Kong in cross-strait trade dropped. This brings into question Hong Kong's prospects as an intermediary in cross-strait trade and economic activities after the "handover". The article features Hong Kong's role as an intermediary in cross-strait investment and as a transhipment hub in cross-strait trade before and after its handover as well as its advantages as an intermediary.
