Abstract | The article introduces the book "The Hong Kong Advantage" by Michael Enright, who is a professor from the Harvard Business School, and two consultants, Edith Scott and David Dodwell. Written on commission for the main economic actors in Hong Kong, including Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, Hongkong Telecommunications Limited, Sun Hung Kai Properties, John Swire and Sons (Hong Kong) Limited who gave it backing, it is intended as an advertisement for Hong Kong's economic success. Worried by the growing pessimism of Western media as July 1st 1997 drew near, and by the focus of debate on political issues, the authors and their sponsors wanted to stress the predominance of the economy in Hong Kong's history and the undeniable success that the territory represents in this area. |
