| Abstract | The "Year 2000 (Y2K) problem" is a vast and complex business threat that presents an unavoidable stumbling block, a crisis that must be faced. It is one deadline that no executive or manager can postpone -- the date January 1, 2000 will come, and organisations could potentially see their information and technology (IT) operations and business services halt because of software systems that cannot process dates beyond 1999. To avoid any nasty surprises it makes sense to be prepared.
