AbstractThe good news for clothing exporters selling to the United States (US) is the record US$37.93 billion worth purchased in 1996; however the rate of import growth is significantly lower than in the past. Overall 1996 woven and knit apparel imports were up by 5.0% versus 8.6% in 1995. US imports from China grew by 8.0% to $5.03% billion. Hong Kong remained the largest supplier of knit apparel but barely the second largest overall supplier to the US market.
