AbstractChina remains the import market leader, with nine-month the United States sales of $3.76 billion. Although below the $3.84 billion sold by China to the United States buyers in 1995 period, this represents an improvement of the Chinese market position during the last quarter of 1995. Through June 1996, Chinese exporters held an 11.8% share of the United States import market. China maintained its position as the top woven apparel supplier even though exports dropped by 2.6% from $2.73 billion in 1995 to $2.66 billion. Hong Kong also managed marginally to improve its market position, with the United States sales of $2.84 billion for a 10.1% market share as against 9.9% through June 1995. Overall sales for 1996 were 10.4% lower than the $3.18 billion achieved in 1995, but Hong Kong remians the top supplier of knit apparel.
