Abstract | After more than 20 years of effort, especially with the rapid growth during the Eight Five-Year Plan period (1991-1995), China's public satellite communications have made substantial progress, and a SATCOM network of considerable scale has been set up. At present, private SATCOM networks have been set up by many institutions including those involved in oil, hydro power, coal mining, forestry, meteorology, civil aviation, transportation, customs, foreign trade, aerospace, seismology, banking, securities, public security and news media. This article traces the development of private and public satellite communications in China. |
