| Abstract | Shanghai first started satellite transmission of communications in 1972 for the requirements of international traffic and it was extended to domestic services in the early 1990s. With the rapid growth in traffic and extensions of earth station facilities, and the introduction of new services, satellite communications in Shanghai are getting to be more important in the global networks. This article traces the development of the satellite communications services in Shanghai. The trend of development in the next five years is also discussed. |
