AbstractThis article introduces the book China Can Say No by Qiao Bian, Zhang Zangzang and Song Qiang. The authors took their cue from Shinaro Ishihara's work, Japan Can Say No. Accordingly, one may be nationalist and yet get one's inspiration from the enemy. The authors, all three graduates of the Teachers' Training College of East China, where Xiao Gongqin, one of the theorists of neo-conservatism, is a teacher, are self-avowedly non specialists in international relations. The reader will easily agree with this judgement. As soon as it was released, China Can Say No had a great impact in Peking's expatriate community, and all through the summer Hong Kong's newspapers and periodicals wrote about it a good deal, and even published interviews with its authors.
