| Abstract | Frustration turned to violence on 31 July 1996 in a head-on confrontation between police and Rennie's Mill residents. One resident, Lau Kin-kwok, 35, injured himself and a policeman when he leapt from the top of a three-metre-high red brick house. Intermittent scuffling between police and demonstrators resulted in one more injury - to a protestor. The stand-off has won the residents a two-week delay in the clearing. |
