AbstractAncient Chinese use three realms, namely the Heaven, Earth, Human, to represent all elements of the universe. In the planning of Ming & Ching Beijing, the "Anterior Cycle of Heaven in I Ching" metaphors the Heaven Realm. The alter of Heaven, Earth, Sun & Moon are placed accordingly to enhance the harmony of the Universe thus to bring prosperity and peace to the land. However, the Earth & Human Realm is represented by the "Posterior Cycle of Heaven in I Ching". All the major urban land marks in Beijing are all planned according to the interaction of the 5 elements of Metal, Earth, Fire, Water and Wood.
