| Abstract | In 1985, a set of guidelines on civic education in schools was published to help school heads and teachers to adopt a whole-school approach in promoting civic awareness among school children. The Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education held a one-day forum in 1987 on "The teaching of civic education in science and mathematics" for all science and mathematics teachers. The main objective was to explain and emphasize to teachers the importance of civic education, its equivalence to ethics and social responsibility, and to develop in young people a rational way of thinking and a sense of citizenship. |
