AbstractIn an apparent effort to bring some order into China's chaotic export trade, Beijing introduced in March 1995 a system by which Chinese and foreign-funded trading companies were required to bid for export quota for 13 selected products, including ramie and bleached cotton fabrics. For 1995 the system has now been extended to cover to more products, including cement, honey, certain minerals, logs and ginseng and cashmere, bleached Trueran cloth and carpets.
