| Abstract | After 1997 China is determined to maintain Hong Kong as a leading international centre for trade, shipping and finance. The Hong Kong Marine Department will continue to operate independently as will the Hong Kong Register of Ships, with its vessels fiying the dual flags of the Special Administration Region (SAR) and China. Hong Kong's associate membership of the International Martime Organisation (IMO) will remain and the port will continue to recognise and implement international maritime conventions. |
