Is Part OfInvestment in China : survey of members of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries ; 1994, p.29-35, illus.
AbstractAmong the 248 manufacturers who claimed to have research and development (R&D), 131 (52.8%) were doing it only in Hong Kong whereas 30 (12.1%) were doing it only in China. The remaining 87 manufacturers (35.1%) had R&D activities in both Hong Kong and China. The types of R&D activity included mainly design of new products and/or production techniques, and upgrading of existing products and/or production techniques. Investment in R&D in terms of money and manpower was generally quite modest. Nearly 85% of the firms had invested less than HK$5 million in R&D. Most of the firms (60.2%) were employing fewer than 10 persons for R&D.
