AbstractQuality assessments can take many forms. One of the most comprehensive and increasingly adopted is that offered by the HKMA Quality Award which is modelled on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the USA. The HKMA Quality Award was established in 1991 to recognize quality improvement among Hong Kong businesses, and previous winners include Rank Xerox and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. The examination criteria are, in effect, an operational definition of Total Quality Management. The criteria for the Award are embodied in seven categories which connect and integrate with each other, as described in the article.
