AbstractAnthony Neoh, chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), is joining in the hunt for local retail investors who have abandoned the bourse. In 1995, the stock exchange glumly reported that only 380,000 people or nine per cent of adults, played the market. Neoh says a more recent study by the SFC found that 19 per cent of adults said they had invested in shares at some point in the past three years - but many of them had given it up as a bad job. Predictably, the SFC is calling for "a comprehensive investor education campaign" to win back the something like 400,000 punters.
