| Abstract | Every stable society in the developed world shares one component, a large, vibrant middle class. Asia is no exception as Japan is predominantly a bourgeois community and Singapore is striving hard to become one. Hong Kong, though, is different with its grave income disparity that places a small but rich minority at one end and a vast working class and lower middle class ("sandwich class" in the local idiom) at the other. |
