Abstract | 3,483 Chinese pregnant women were included in a 1-year prospective study for the screening of abnormal glucose tolerance using random plasma glucose measurements between 24-28 weeks of gestation. The sensitivities and specificities of random plasma glucose measurement alone (42.0%, 23.5%), clinical risk factors alone (52.2%, 16.9%) and the two in combinatiion (94.3%, 19.5%) were calculated. In our population, we conclude that the 75th centile level for random plasma glucose values (>5.0mmol/L) obtained 2 hours after meal in combination with clinical risk factors is a sensitive, simple, acceptable and inexpensive screening test for glucose intolerance in pregnancy. |
