Abstract | Qingdao is situated at the southwestern tip of Shandong Peninsula in northeast China. The city faces the Yellow Sea on the east and south, joining the mainland on the west and north. Qingdao is the biggest seaport in Shandong Province and is acclaimed as "pearl on the coast of the Yellow Sea". The city covers an area of 10,654 square kilometres, of which 12.4 percent is urban, and has a total population of 6.76 million, of which 1.78 million are urban residents. |
