AbstractGenerally, there is thought to be a strong correlation between the health and the wealth of nations (Maxwell cited in Davis & George 1988). It is, however, more precise to say that the health status of a particular nation corresponds more closely with the distribution of wealth within it. Hong Kong, for example, has one of the highest GNP per capita in the world and an improved health index, yet the quality and facilities of health care provision are limited compared with other industrialized countries.
