Abstract | Adolescence is a developmental period with multiple, interrelated changes in physical appearance and functioning, cognition, self-identity, and interpersonal relationships. Acute or chronic health conditions pose an extra challenge for the individual making the transition from childhood to adulthood. Pediatric nurses must understand the developmental needs of adolescents during times of illness, injury, and hospitalization. The article will present the developmental tasks of adolescence along with implications for nursing practice with implications for nursing practice with this age group. |
