| Abstract | Hong Kong characterises uniquely by the high-density-high-rise compact city pattern. The ever-increasing population growth on a limited buildable land poses challenges for architects, urban designers and urban planners alike. With the increasing social awareness towards the environment, the article presents the recent developments in the traffic noise mitigation measures, currently adopted as the 'integrated-approach', and discusses the importance of the forthcoming 'sustainable-approach' for high-rise residential developments in Hong Kong in the New Millennium. |
