| Abstract | Sustainability has become a catchword for the end of a century where change has run rampant and left a somewhat exhausted planet in its wake. The conditions under which the greater part of humanity now lives continue to change. Substainability must therefore be essentially about maintaining and enhancing the quality of urban life within the carrying capacity of its supporting resource base and eco-systems. This article explains the importance of sustainable development. |
