Abstract | Tne new International Wetland Park and Visitor Centre is situated adjacent the internationally significant Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay Ramsar site in the northwest New Territories. This project -- designated as one of the projects receiving official Millennium commemorations -- will put Hong Kong on the map for sustainable tourism development by promoting environmental education, raising awareness of the importance of wetlands and by providing a new visitor attraction focused on eco-tourism. After two years of hard knocks tourists are once again a common sight in the Special Administrative Region (SAR). And as the Hong Kong Tourist Association (HKTA) reports, there are plans in hand to keep them coming. |
