AbstractA "Good Samaritan" act by a physician refers to a voluntary medical help offered by a physician to a person in need, often in unexpected situations and under sub-optimal circumstances. Whilst the intention is undoubtedly good, medical and legal implications should always be considered during the act. However, the overriding consideration is the welfare of the patient. An incident concerning an abortion encountered by the authors on a plane illustrates some of the principles of a "Good Samaritan" act.
