AbstractThe objective of medical surveillance of workers exposed to hazardous chemicals or physical agents is for early detection and prevention of occupational diseases to avoid permanent health damage. General practitioners who wish to provide such services to workers are advised to undertake an approved course of training in occupational medicine. A register of "Appointed Medical Practitioners" (AMP) will be kept by the Department of Health to facilitate employers and employees to seek for such services. Depending on the number of qualified AMP available and the progress of the legislative process, the statutory medical examination of workers exposed to hazardous substances or physical agents would be implemented in 1997.
