| Abstract | Intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) is the increase of intra-abdominal pressure in patients with severe abdominal pathologies such as abdominal trauma, ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm and many others. Sustained IAH can result in poor cardiac output, high peak airway pressure and oliguria. Intra-abdominal pressure monitoring helps in early detection of IAH, and serves as a guide to collaborative medical and nursing interventions. The article describes the concept and application of intra-abdominal pressure monitoring in a patient with severe abdominal trauma. |
