| Abstract | In 1988, the 41st World Health Assembly committed the World Health Organisation (WHO) to the global eradication of poliomyelitis by the year 2000. As with the global certification of smallpox eradication, it was necessary to have well-documented evidence from effective surveillance to confirm the interruption of poliovirus transmission. The article features the certification of eradication of poliomyelitis in Hong Kong. |
