| Abstract | Government has made a major commitment to urban renewal. In 1998 alone, Hong Kong will see the creation and implementation of a variety of urban renewal plans: an urban Renewal Authority (URA) with statutory powers to expedite urban renewal on a larger scale and in a more comprehensive manner, an Urban Renewal Strategy Study to identify priority urban renewal areas, enabling the URA to immediately embark on urban renewal projects upon its establishment; and introduction of legislation to increase the speed and scale of urban renewal projects by expediting land assembly. The article illustrates Island Place in North Point as an example of this commitment at work. |
