AbstractAbout 0.3 percent of the population of Hong Kong have been exposed to hepatitis C. Hepatitis C has protean manifestations. Liver enzymes may be normal or minimally elevated in active disease. Patients may be asymptomatic, mildly to moderately ill with malaise being the most often complaint or present with extra-hepatic features including skin, renal, auto-immune problems as well as non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Treatment is moving towards longer duration of therapy with interferon, averaging 12-18 months and combination therapy with interferon plus ribavirin or thymosin.
