AbstractCompared to its larger neighbour to the south, the Canadian import market for woven and knit apparel is small. With approximately 30 million (m) citizens, Canada has only 11 percent the United States (US) population of some 270m. With the US importing nearly US$38 billion (b) in woven and knit apparel in 1996, one would expect the Canadian import market to exceed $4b. However, Canada remains more self-sufficient than the US. The situations of China, Taiwan and Hong Kong are mentioned in the article.
