| Abstract | The United Nations has declared the 17th of October the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, based on statistics of the United Nations and the World Bank, released in 1998 a statement on the eradication of poverty. The article depicts the situation of poverty and inequity in Hong Kong, aims at arousing government and public concern on the issue, and makes various recommendations accordingly. The Government is urged to formulate policies basing on people-centred principle and taking public interests into account. |
