Abstract | The article concerns with three main themes. Firstly, the characteristic health practices of qigong are briefly set out; secondly, the "new religions" (xinxing zongjiao) are defined in contrast with popular religion, and in their relationship to the ongoing changes in Taiwanese society; thirdly, it examines the incorporation of health practices into religion, and the practices of qigong in the context of the new religions by taking the example of the Tianren qigong -- health practices of the Tiandi jiao group. |
