AbstractThirty-seven females with a history of employment as public relations ladies in karaoke lounges, 24 delinquent girls without such a history, and 53 normal school girls, all ages 15-17, filled out a questionnaire concerning family background, relationship with parents, peer characteristics, school experiences, and sexual attitudes and behaviors. Results indicated that the karaoke and the delinquent group had a number of risk factors in common, including broken homes, ineffective discipline by parents, early school drop-out, and association with deviant peers. However, the karaoke girls began sexual activities and were associated with similar peers at an earlier age than their delinquent and student counterparts. Moreover, the karaoke girls were not more ready than the others to enter into intimate and sexual relationships with just anybody. The karaoke girls can generally be viewed as a subset of juvenile delinquents, whose early sexual experiences weaken their resistance to the karaoke business.
