Abstract | Optic-fiber communications has become a major transmission medium in China's telecommunication networks. In order to guarantee the quality of optical communications, it is the most pressing matter to establish metrological standards for optical communications so that the metrological verification of optical communication equipment and measuring instruments can be carried out properly. For important parameters such as optical power, optical attenuation, optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR), optical fiber dispersion, optical wavelength, optic-fiber refractive index distribution and mode-field diameter, which are most commonly used in optical communications, metrological standards should be set up. |
