| Abstract | Although there have been many studies of Hong Kong investment in the mainland, little attention has been paid to Chinese investment in Hong Kong. Not until the 1993 sale of the famous "H-shares" in Chinese state enterprises on the Hong Kong market did Chinese enterprises in the territory start to become an object of study. Behind this extremely rapid development, there are still several unclarified issues concerning the nature of these firms and their activities in Hong Kong. This article dicusses whether these enterprises controlled by different bureaucratic entities in China are likely to be able to contribute positively to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR)'s economic development. |
