Abstract | Each of the 32 provinces of China, autonomous regions and municipalities that make up this continent-sized economy could stand as a nation in itself. Each has a country's worth of manpower, resources, history, quirks and legends. This article presents the mainland as the sum of its parts, from the booming lands of the east coast, through the rural mid-west and the mountains of Tibet. This article also shows each region's capital and second city, which are arranged according to the size of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The decisions made by the center at the lofty 15th Party Congress will ultimately impact on China, at ground level. |
