| Abstract | Not only did Hong Kong dominate the news in 1997, it aimed to conquer Hollywood too. Hong Kong's finest, namely John Woo and Jackie Chan, headed the invasion. Asian films go international. America in turn looked to Hong Kong and China for subject. But with the characters acting as ciphers for their countries, perhaps that was only to be expected. Hong Kong stars shine in Tinseltown, but it is not the same when the West moves East. |
