| Abstract | Mr Shi Wanpeng, 60, has taken over as chairman of the China National Textile Council (CNTC), from Ms Wu Wenying who has reached retirement age. Mr Shi, formerly assistant director of the Economic and Trade Commission of the State Council, was the chief aid to then economic reformer, now Vice-Premier Zhu Rongji. Analysts believe Mr Shi will carry out a restructuring of state-owned textile companies, many of which are known for their loss-making operations. |
