AbstractThe legal procedure in China relating to maritime matters generally follows the Chinese Civil Procedure Law. Therefore, the maritime procedure, at present, is largely same as the ordinary civil procedure except for arrest of ships and judicial sale of the arrested ships. The legal rules governing arrest of vessels are mainly set out by the People's Supreme Court of China. On July 6, 1994, the Supreme People's Court promulgated the Regulations on Pre-litigation Arrest of Ships, ("1994 Arrest Regulations") which replaced its 1986 counterpart ("1986 Arrest Regulations").
