Abstract | Since the emotional public protests over Japan's claim to the Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea cooled, two side issues to the dispute between China and Japan deserve attention. One was the publication of a long article in the official People's Daily (18 October 1996) entitled "On Sovereign Claims to the Diaoyu Islands", the other was republication of a book, The Diaoyu Islands, by Japanese historian Kiyoshi Inoue. In this article, the author comments on what the two publications tell. |
