Abstract | The core economic region of the Tumen River Development Area (TREDA) consists of Hunchun in northeast China, Rajin-Sonbong in North Korea and Posyet in Russian Far East. As the region is close to Japan and Korea, and is linked to Europe by land, it is envisaged to become a transit centre linking norteast Asia to Europe - transportation time from Japan and Korea to Germany via the Trans-Siberian Railway requires about only 10 days. TREDA development requires substantial investment in infrastructure facilities, including transportation and telecommunications. Governments of TREDA are seeking foreign capital in some of the planned infrastructure projects. Loxley Group of Thailand has engaged in the development of the telecommunications system in Rajin. |
