Abstract | China has resolved to step up the development of its central and vestern regions during the Ninth Five-Year Plan period (1996-2000). Priority will be given to these regions in soft loans for infrastructure projects. In addition, efforts will be made to further open the inland provinces to the outside world by offering foreign investors in these regions the same preferential terms as in the coastal areas. Because living standards in the mainland continue to improve and the markets in the central and western regions are more open, foreign investors planning to venture into these parts of the country can expect great business opportunities during the Ninth Five-Year Plan. |
