AbstractChina trade painting, which flourished when Chinese ports were opened to Western traders in the early to mid-19th century, widened reputations for Western artists. An exhibition of fine etchings and drypoints dating from 1880 to 1914 by the unusually well documented and distinguished artist, Mortimer Menpes (1855-1938) is held at Wattis Fine Art, Central. An impressive collection of more than 75 works by this inveterate traveller and talented print artist has been assembled; of particular interest to the local audience are those prints inspired by his visits to the Far East in 1887 and 1896-97.
