AbstractOver the last 15 years or so, many research institutes, in particular academies of social sciences and universities, have set up centres for study on Taiwan. Today there are about 30 of these centres throughout China. The main one - and the most official - is still, without a doubt, the Institute of Taiwan Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. But, for obvious cultural and historical reasons, Fujian also has several institutes specialising in the study of Taiwan. They include the Institute of Research on Taiwan at the University of Amoy (Fujian), the Institute of Contemporary Taiwanese Studies at the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences (Fuzhou), and the Fujian Society for Taiwan Studies (Fuzhou). These organisations are introduced in this article.
