AbstractThe great days of foreign textile machinery imports into China came to an end in 1994. Foreign machine makers were frustrated by the sharp change in policy and grumbled a good deal. Textile machinery sales have not improved much in recent years. Having enjoyed the pleasure of large volume machinery purchases by China in the 1980s, foreign companies are willing to wait for the next purchase boom. Meanwhile, spurred by the threat each year of import tax waiver cancellation, for state as well as joint venture and privately run factories, some foreign machine purchases are made to beat each deadline.
