Abstract | In the People's Republic of China (PRC), media law has yet to take on formal legal shape as the media in China almost always served as a mouthpiece for various political interests both before and after 1911. It is subject to probably more regulation than in most other jurisdictions. Thus far, the forms of this regulation are mostly political-managerial and bureaucratic-administrative. The PRC has, nonetheless, been debating the introduction of a more formal legal regulatory regime for the media for well over a decade. The book reviewed in this article is a collection of PRC media-studies essays concerning the above issues. |
