| Abstract | In Hong Kong, diabetes mellitus is a major public health problem accounting for much of the acute and chronic morbidity and mortality which can be prevented with good glycaemic control. Diabetes mellitus requires a holistic approach involving medical therapy, lifestyle modification and self care. Due to the complexity of the disease and its complications and the large number of health care personnel involved, development of shared care between primary care (both private and public) and the hospital sector is one possible solution. |
