| Abstract | In Hong Kong lodgement of swallowed foreign bodies (FB) is a fairly common complaint among patients attending the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department. About 500-600 cases were seen yearly at Princess Margaret Hospital in the early 1990s and their own estimation for the year 1993 was in excess of a thousand cases. Although there is no shortage of published local studies on this topic in recent years all were focused on management and outcome issues only. This prospective study concentrates on epidemiological aspects with a view to uncovering generalisations and patterns that have patient management relevance. |
