| Abstract | The establishment of the Hospital Authority (HA) on 1 December 1990 to take over the management of 38 hospitals/institutions denoted a change in the health care system of Hong Kong. In 1995, the number of hospitals managed by HA increased to 41. One initiative of HA is to develope community partnership in care provision. The establishment of the Patient Resource Centre in major hospitals and the development in the volunteer service scheme in hospitals was aimed to promote community involvement in the provision of care. This article talks about the benefits of volunteering in hospitals and the views from different groups of people towards volunteer service in hospitals. |
